Vacation- Part 1: Xi'an

One of the many perks about teaching in China is the number of holidays for teachers and students. We are currently on a seven week holiday break between the fall semester and the spring semester. Last Thursday we headed into Beijing to catch an early flight out to Xi'an, one of the oldest cities in China. It's also widely known for the newly founded eighth wonder of the world; the Terracotta Warriors. Besides this amazing site, we also went for a bike ride on the City Wall. One of the only cities walls that is fully intact. Curtis and I choose to use the double seated bike, it was really fun after we got use to it! We also visited the Bell Tower, Drum Tower, and Muslim Quarters. The Muslim Quarters was a long street filled with vendors for food and small trinkets, as well as, restaurants and other things. It was a lot of fun to walk down, in fact, we walked down it twice!! The hostel we stayed in was cheap but very nice, warm, and comfortable for western travelers.

Our trip to Xi'an lasted about 5 days total. We got back into Baoding by train at 5:30 Wednesday morning. The trip was so relaxing and fun! We saw many sights and were able to sleep when we wanted and enjoy really yummy food, including the traditional noodles which Xi'an is also famous for!

Tomorrow we head back into Beijing to catch a train to Harbin, which is up north. We will be gone for about a month but will hopefully be able to keep you updated along the way!
