Well this has been another eventful-ish week! Monday was Curtis's Birthday, he is now 24 years old. We celebrated his birthday with the other foriegn teachers and a couple of his close friends with cake, coke, 7up and presents. As you may know, choosing a present for Curtis can get a little tricky. He doesnt want/need much but the stuff he does want/need he is very picky about. And living in China doesn't offer top many options. He gave me a lot of ideas but none that I have access to while in Asia. But now I have a good list for the future! Calls from family and friends always make a special occassion better and this was no acception. He greatly appreciated the calls, facebook messages, and thoughts from afar.
Monday also marked that final week of online classes for Curtis. Tomorrow morning he will take his Biology Final Examination and on Sunday evening, Chemistry Final Examination. Online classes this semester were a challenge for both of us but we learned alot through it. I know he is looking forward to having some more free time to relax and spend with his good friends here in Baoding.
For the past few weeks the weather has been remarkable! The sky has been SOO blue and it has been in the 50's and 60's. You may or may not know but last year was the coldest winter in China(it was all over the news!). So it has been such a delight to enjoy autumn weather for an extra amount of time. However, these past couple of days is starting to reveal the bitter cold that we learned to love last year. I just hope the sky keeps staying so blue and the sun keeps shinning so strong!
I put some letters in the mail today. I meant to do it about a month ago, but when I went to mail them at the post office, I discovered the post office was missing. Well, finally today I asked my friend, Jada, to help me find it. After a bitter cold bike ride up and down our vegetable market street and down some random alleys, we found it. Living in China has made both Curtis and I more light-hearted people. The post office was once located on the corner of a very busy intersection and I couldn't help but laugh at the location it moved too. Both Jada and I were a little confused at the choice in location but after having lived here over a year, I didn't find it suprising at all. If I go there again I might take video footage so you can enjoy in the experience too.
In other news, tonight I made a dinner that has come to be one of Curtis's favorite. He asks for it all the time and says he never grows old of it. Its nice to have such a simple man. Anyways after making this dish at least 10 times in the past, tonight I finally had all of the proper ingredients. Not everything can be found here in our little town, and sometimes you will find one thing but not the other. However this time I had: 1 can of cream of chicken soup (bought in Beijing), 1 red bell pepper (harder to find than you thing), mushrooms (I get hesitant by the way some of them look), zucchini, and Swiss cheese. I am sooo proud of our RT Mart (grocery store). They may have taken all the milk and milk products off the self for a very long time but they are continually expanding their selection of imported cheese. We are so grateful for this. We mostly live on Velveeta, sent to us from the States. But every now and then we splurge ($5- thats a lot of money here) and buy the super expensive imported cheddar cheese, or in this case Swiss cheese.
Tired to upload pictures but the internet just wasn't having it. Maybe next time.
